If you ‘ve been to the site, you should have noticed that we had a major makeover for Gizmoojo! And yes, we love our new design and we can’t wait to relaunch Gizmoojo with some really cool stuff that I ‘ve been thinking about. Nevertheless, the current version of Gizmoojo has some bug fixes but overall, there are no new features that went in.
We would like to thank our sponsors – Railsplayground for provding the best ever Rails hosting for our users and also Dave Zentgraf from Kunststube for the redesign of Gizmoojo!
To allow us to keep you informed of our upcoming relaunch, I would encourage you to create a new user account and I promise, we will relaunch with some really cool features to come!
The rumored Google Rs
October 5, 2006 at 8:03 pm | In Web 2.0, gizmoojo, google rs, web .0, web2.0 | 1 CommentThis morning, some mysterious Google screenshots – including what appears to be a mock-up for a Google Web Office product, called Google RS were posted on Google groups for Google reader. The screenshots were at this location, but have since been taken down.
So I managed to save them just before they were taken down. So from these screenshots, Google Rs actually looked very cool. If it was materialized, we can see some stir-ups to the web 2.0 startups over might just be overshadow by Google. Take Kiko for example. Google integration of calender into Gmail practically took their growth out. So if Google Rs is really released, we should see quite a few smaller web 2.0 startups dropping into the dead bucket. (Digg it)
Gizmoojo.com Beta 0.5 released
July 19, 2006 at 6:33 pm | In Startups, Web 2.0, beta test, gizmoojo, startup, web2.0 | Leave a Comment
With all the server issues behind my back, I decided to spice up Gizmoojo.com with a little small update. If anyone is curious why we had this release as 0.5, its because this is ver0.5 of Gizmoojo software. You see, I have tagging my development code with release version so that I can easily know what version of code is where and what is fix and what is added to the version of software Gizmoojo runs on, and when we had our first public beta, it was release 0.3. So I thought, why not include the release version on the mainpage and shortly also a link to the release notes (software engineering stuff – basically a table of what is fix, new features, etc)
With this release, I’ve changed the site mainpage a little to just always show the Portable Audio Players + a random selected department. Bare in mind this is no way how the mainpage will be, I’m sure it will be evolving as we move along and feedbacks from users. So get out there and write your very own Gizmoojo page now.
HOUSTON, WE ARE READY FOR LIFT-OFF
June 27, 2006 at 3:36 pm | In Amazon, Startups, Web 2.0, beta test, gizmoojo, web2.0 | 8 CommentsAfter 4 days of non-stop coding and cracking, and eating and jumping, the moment has arrived. We are going into beta launch for gizmoojo.com. HEAD ON OUT BETA.GIZMOOJO.COM and sign up now. I am hoping we will not get any DIGG effect, like what DIGG did to itself when it launch DIGG3.0. Basically, they have so much hype that it was causing some serious strain on their servers. From the Digg blog
Digg v3 Status
(5:00AM PST): Digg temporarily down while we switch over to Digg v3.0.
(6:10AM PST): Digg v3 is live.
(6:20AM PST): Demand is so high we’re adding more machines.
(7:50AM PST): We are making a run to bestbuy to pick up some more servers (kidding). Seriously though: We are seeing much higher activity than we normally do, so bear with us as we turn on additional machines and tweak the site throughout the day.
(3:30PM PST): All is running fine. Digg on!
Really funny…. Mr Rose.. Although, on the back of my mind, if we ever got Digg, that would be such an honor…… but then that would render our service unavailable to the beta testers and that is something I hope would not be a major issue. Well, we’ll just have to see. Couple of points that I want to highlight, as you know Gizmoojo.com is about reviews, tech reviews.. so why not make a site that would benefit the reviewer that really work hard to share their knowledge and experience. So that is why we have the Gizmoojo adgent.
The advertising adgents that runs the ADs on each Gizmoojo Page. What is cool about this is, if you signed up for an Amazon Associates Account, you can enter your Amazon Associate ID into your profile, and at the same time, enjoy some AJAX profile update…. Cool. ahh… and right now for the beta launch, you will get 100%, YES, 100% of the outward clicks to Amazon, so ALL the best.. since we will be revising that so we can earn some money to move on to bigger things for Gizmoojo.com. What I have in mind is a 50/50 split for outward clicks to Amazon once we are well away from Beta. So go ahead and gizmoojo away!

Gizmoojo! So what is it all about?
April 10, 2006 at 11:21 am | In beta test, gizmoojo, web2.0 | 2 CommentsGizmoojo! is a review site as the name implies for gizmos, gadgets and anything that a geek loves. ("you would have to start our own service if you want to review your wife or girlfriend, umm I'm not thinking about it in a xxx way"). But yes, its a review site by ordinary people like you and me, geeks! And who would stand to gain. Our visitors to the site to get real reviews and not reviews from sites that are pushing products from their sponsoring companies. And how about all the ads on the page. Just take Cnet.com, its just so overwhelmed with ads and noise. So Gizmoojo! is real reviews by real people and we hope to present it in a cleaner way, less noise. Of course, you would ask what do our geeky reviewers stand to gain by spending time to write detailed reviews from their experience with various products. Well, "IT PAYS TO BE A GEEK".
Gizmoojo! has an amazon ad system that is tied in to the author of the particular Gizmoojo! page, and by signing up as an Amazon.com associates, Gizmoojo! page authors will earn the Amazon Referral Commission from the ads tied in to their page. So write true and good reviews to get people to visit your page and yes! you get paid to do it. After your review is out on Gizmoojo.com, visitors can rate your review in a "digg" way and add their personal comments/reviews through Cheers – "Supportive comments" and Rants – "Non-supportive comment" and Gizmoojo! pages are ranked by cheers.
An example of a cheer could be "I totally agree with what you are saying, the Ipod Nano is so small that it shocked me when I got it".
An example of a rant could be "I totally disagree with what you are saying, the Ipod Nano LCD scratches so easily!"
So how does that sound? If you like what I'm saying, remember to drop by our beta signup page and submit your email for the beta test!
Gizmoojo! The preview.
April 10, 2006 at 10:55 am | In beta test, gizmoojo, startup, web2.0 | Leave a CommentAs I push forward to get Gizmoojo! into beta release stage, I hope to share some sneak preview of what the beta release will be like. So here's some preview pics of the beta site and thanks to Flickr, I have added notes to certain features and ideas that I'm working out now.
Animate Loading in the Web 2.0 world
March 7, 2006 at 4:26 am | In gizmoojo, web2.0 | 1 CommentSo. I was thinking about what to use for showing users of Gizmoojo when the site is doing its thinking, ie loading contents, pages, running queries. And I thought it would be nice to have a post with most web 2.0 companies’ animated loading images.
So here’s the list that I have and feel free to add on to the list with followup comments

| 30boxes.com
| calendarhub.com

| SpotBack
| SocialLight
| PageFlakes
Looks like we need more creativity for loading animations for Web 2.0 community ![]()
Update 3/17/2006: I came across this on digg last nite and this site has more web 2.0 loading animations to die for!!

Stats and Speculations
March 4, 2006 at 7:18 am | In beta test, gizmoojo, startup, web2.0 | Leave a CommentHmm.. The past 48 hours has been pretty fun. First of all, it was fun to put up the beta signup page for Gizmoojo. Second of all, Gizmoojo has been receiving better than expect response since the beta signup has been put out. If you have signed up for the beta, thank you. I hope to achieve more in the coming weeks for sharing what Gizmoojo is all about. I have thought about it and I think a preview page would be just great to gather ideas and comments. But for now, enjoy this compliments of Flickr!

Something interesting is that I’m getting traffic from Om Malik’s blog gigaom.com and so I decide to check out what’s going on and to my suprise, the traffic came from his post on News Corp’s news about them buying a small web 2.0 company and someone commented Gizmoojo.com. There’s traffic coming from Techcrunch too from one of the comments posted to Mike’s blog about Fox’s acquisition. Interesting speculations
