Want a piece of Google/Youtube? Here’s how.
November 4, 2006 at 12:15 am | In Acquisitions, google, youtube | 1 CommentI always thought that Google’s acquisition of Youtube was not really well thought out by the hands in charge. One big thing that they had neglected is the potential amount of lawsuits that they see coming. I believe they underestimated this fact this alot. Over at Mashable, Pete posted that “Google talks in frantic mode and paying huge amount of money to Media company for Youtube“. That is just the beginning of this nightmare for Google.
Then we have others who are hungry and just wants a piece of the pie for themselves. The German soccer team Bayern Munich threatened to sue over YouTube’s use of fan footage, and today the press wires are reporting that the English Premier League is also unhappy. And then there is Utube, the tubing company that operates a corporate site at utube.com sueing Google for expenses incur because of the amount of traffic they got from visitors who were looking for youtube.com but ended up at utube.com.
So as I have pointed out, this is only the beginning. And here’s why, if ever any of these lawsuits would go in favor against Google, look for others to immediately jump onto the bandwagon. I bet you that there are probably hundreds of other companies just lurking in the background and if ever Google lose a single one of the cases against them. We’ll see more lawsuits coming their way.
So say now, I put some video of gadget and gizmos reviews on Gizmoojo.com and if someone (or even worse, I had someone) post videos of these reviews onto Youtube. That in theory is an infringement of my copyrights. So my claim against Google/Youtube would easily be as valid as the rest since Youtube hosted my video and thus causing the loss of advertising revenue/traffic that Gizmoojo could “potentially be losing”. So, yes, Google made a bad decision for acquiring Youtube, and they’re in for a hell of a ride.
Welcome to the Midwest, Google!
July 11, 2006 at 6:02 pm | In Startups, google | Leave a CommentYes, this is being reported and digged right now. “Google coming to Ann Arbor“. I guess the big west finally figured it out. There’s something going on in the Midwest other than farming. Now that Google becomes the first big internet software giant to have a foothold here in the Midwest, hmmm.. guess who else would follow…
If you think about it, the Midwest might be poised to be the next valley, why? As startups find themselves having to pay out of their nose for engineers on the West coast, it is imperative for startups to locate out of the heat zone such as Silicon Valley. Of course, the cool thing to do now for startups is to have developers working off their laptops on their beaches across the pacific oceans running skype thru a broadband connection. But If Ann Arbor plays it right, they could possibly position themselves as the spot to be for Internet startups. I mean backed by a highly rated university, U.Mich, I sure they have no shortage of Brains in the area. They just have to fight to keep it there.
Now, if I was working for Google, I would get myself out to the Ann Arbor site, and why? You might be thinking… Hell No.. I hate snow, but if you think about it, trade great weather for the beauty of four seasons, and YES, the chance to own a house! Housing cost are much higher out on the west coast, you will never be able to own one unless you had one.. Get it…. Things have been heating up abit here in the Midwest for sure.. and we might have M$ getting into the action here too pretty soon…
